Frequently Asked Questions
What is Measure B?
Measure B is on the November 2026 ballot to repair and upgrade Beaumont Unified Schools Without Raising Taxes
Why do we need Measure B?
Many BUSD schools are aging and were built for a different era of education. Classrooms and labs need repairs and upgrades to meet current academic standards. There are also 81 portable classrooms that are over 20 years old, with structural damage and water leaks requiring costly repairs.
Additionally, outdated classrooms and labs need updates to meet current instructional standards to prepare students for college and in-demand careers.
Measure B invests in our local schools, providing students with a safe, high quality education that allows them to contribute to our community for years to come — without raising taxes.
What projects would Measure B fund?
If approved by local voters, Measure B will provide $86 million in locally controlled school funding to:
-
Improve student safety and campus security systems
-
Repair or replace deteriorating roofs, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems where needed
-
Upgrade older schools so they meet current health codes and building safety codes, and provide proper access for students with disabilities
-
Provide modern labs and career technical education facilities so students are prepared for college and in-demand careers
How can I be sure funds are spent as promised?
By law, Measure B includes strict fiscal accountability protections, including:
-
All funds raised will be controlled locally and could not be taken by the State
-
No funds can be used for administrators' salaries or pensions
-
Mandatory citizens' oversight, independent audits, and public reports of all spending will be required to ensure funds are spent as voters intended
-
Measure B will not increase the current tax rate
Will Measure B increase tax rates?
No. Measure B will not raise taxes, it simply extend the current rate and deliver $86 million in locally controlled funding for Beaumont Schools.
Could this funding be taken by the State?
No. All funds from Measure B would benefit Beaumont Unified schools only and could not be taken by the State or used for other purposes.
I don't have children attending local schools. How does this impact me?
Even without school-age children, funding quality education can help improve the community's quality of life and protect home values.
When will Measure B appear on the ballot?
Measure B will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot. Every registered voter within Beaumont Unified School District boundaries will receive a ballot in early October.
How much would Measure B cost?
Measure B would provide $86 million in locally controlled school funding, at a rate of $20 per $100,000 of assessed (not market) value ($6,000,000 annually), without increasing the current tax rate.
What is the difference between assessed value and market value?
The cost of bond measures is based on the assessed value of properties. The assessed value of a property is based on the original purchase price and may not increase by more than 2% a year, while the market value tends to grow at a much faster rate based on market conditions. Thus, the assessed value is usually much lower than the market value, especially if a property was purchased long ago at a much lower price than it could be purchased for today. It is this lower assessed value upon which the cost of Measure B is based.
Are senior exemptions available for Measure B?
State law does not allow exemptions for bond measures. However, Measure B would not increase tax rates, and the cost is based on the assessed value of a home, not its current market value. Seniors who have owned their homes the longest typically pay the least for bond measures.
Who is eligible to vote on the measure?
All registered voters in the Beaumont Unified School District are eligible to vote and will receive a ballot in early October.
What level of support is required to pass the bond measure?
At least 55% of voters who cast a ballot on the measure must vote "Yes" for it to pass.
